Photo Sessions are always a challenge...trying new things, capturing those moments that just bless your day and wanting each family to have an incredible, unique experience! I say challenging because with the busy schedules of school, work, sports, church and the multitude of other commitments that families have these days, sometimes it takes an extra special effort to make time for a photo session! Once you put in a full day on the job or at school, the last thing you want to do is get dressed up and smile! Sometimes though...it is worth the effort! Some moments only come around once!
Six Years! SIX YEARS! It is hard to believe that my friend, Chrissy, has been in my life for SIX years but so it is! Her beautiful daughter, Camryn, was only a few months old when I first met Chrissy. Just recently, Camryn, now in kindergarten, has just celebrated her sixth birthday! During this photo session, I thought she was six going on sixteen at times! :)
But that is not all....this family has been blessed with a new addition or is he a new addition? Little Parker is already six months old! Ever changing and becoming his own little man!
As a photographer, there are times I worry that this shoot is just not flowing well! It is always a relief to get off by myself for a sneek peek and hope there are some "keepers"! Thanks Andrew, Chrissy, Camryn and Parker once again for an incredible evening!
So, if it has been a while since you and your family have taken a photo together, make the time now! Tomorrow will be just as busy as today!

Photography is a journey…every day…each subject…a new learning experience.
This past Saturday, the Central Ky Photography Group had a studio photography meet up! Although it was one of the smaller groups, there were still new faces! Once again, we had a “Super” model - Paula. She was incredibly patient and good natured enduring several hours of sitting in the “hot” seat.
As usual, I was feeling a little overwhelmed leaving the meet up. I wasn’t sure I had learned (or maybe “absorbed” is a better word) that much. There is so much to consider in studio photography: lighting, backdrops, shadows, poses, f-stops, shutter speeds, well, you get my meaning! Give me squirrels and dogs and hummingbirds any day! No matter how much I learn, I realize there is so much more to learn...it just never stops! :) (Sounds kind of like life!). But later that evening, as I recounted my day, I realized I garnered more information than I even knew!! So, whatever it is that you are learning about or trying to do, don’t give up! Just give your education a workout! Put into practice your principles as soon as possible.
The upside, my new friend and fellow photographer, Connie and I went to lunch!!
From the first time I met her, I thought this is a lady I would love to have as a friend! And lunch only confirmed that feeling! We talked for over two hours: about photography, family, traveling, this, that and, you know,” Girl Talk!” We could have talked forever!! I can hardly wait until after the Holidays for our next meet up!
Still, I was not quite ready to call it a day and head home! Who know how many sunny days we have left before Ole Man Winter arrives? Kentucky is chock-full of history around every corner. So, every time I come to Danville, I had been wanting to visit Constitution Square (hey, it sounds interesting!). But on my way there, I saw the sign – Fort Harrod only 10 miles. Hmm, when was the last time I had been to Fort Harrod? Could it be 15 years? How time flies! Let’s see if anything has changed.
As I walked around the 75 ft Osage Orange Tree, circa 18th century, my mind reflected back to my visit!! My family brought Nellie, a student from Bulgaria, who was staying with us. She had never seen Indians before so we took her see the Legend of Daniel Boone on her birthday! We took pictures all over that park and with the “Indians” of the play! What a great memory!
“The Roots of the Present Lie Deep Within the Past” - this quote on the wall of the cemetary rings so true!
As Kentucky celebrates the bicentennial Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s legacy, I was glad to see preservation taking place. To be able to walk about the cabin where Lincoln’s parents were married…wow! What a walk through time. I strolled through the pioneer cemetery, noted to be the first “God’s Acre” of the Wilderness, but very few markers were left. But one marker that was left belonged to Ann McGinty who passed in 1815 but known to have brought the first spinning wheel to Kentucky. I had no idea what a hedge apple was as I don’t know that I have ever seen one before. I wanted to bring one home but wasn’t sure what it was so I was nervous about picking it up. They are such weird objects – who knew, they could have been leftovers from Halloween. I was not the only one enjoying the history and remembering the early settlers but was joined by a troop of boy scouts.
The sun was beginning to set as I headed back into Danville to visit Constitution Square. Do you realize that the original conventions leading to the Statehood of Kentucky took place in that square? A church sits there now as well as the first post office west of the Alleghenies. Fisher’s Row represents the first set of rental houses! I love history and scenic tours of behind the scenes. But, still, sometimes I am so amazed at the people who were so far ahead of their times…leading the way into the future!
One final stop: sunset at Cedar Creek Lake and what a beauty it was!
There’s no better way to end a blissful day. I was reminded, once again, just how great is our God! I love photography because it gives me a medium to attempt to record the artistry of my Majestic Creator. I can’t do the beauty justice but I can go back to that spot in time with just a glance and be taken back all over again. It was too funny…I was not the only photographer there enjoying the scenic beauty…Sandy, one of my fellow photographers and her husband, was there as well.
Take a deep breath and take a look around! Enjoy this moment! ~ C ~

If you know anything about me at all, you know “cooking” is not where my talents die! Still each year, I enjoy attending the Taste of Living Holiday Cooking Show and it’s that time of year again.
On our way to the Centre, Jeanette and I stopped by the new children’s garden by the Pulaski Co Library. What a beautiful spot for a photo shoot or a hand’s on learning center? Flowers, Herbs, Shrubs, Ponds, Butterflies, Birds, Sea Serpents and Horses! Come spring’s arrival this will be a five star locale for children’s pictures! It is so well laid out and wonderfully landscaped! I am so glad we stopped to scout it out!
Onto the Center: After checking out the displays, signing up for give-a-ways, and grabbing a quick bite, Jeanette and I met up with Judy, Laura, and Marcy. My friend, Tawanna and her sister, Tammi, were also there! Let the good times begin!! A perfect girls' night out!! Oh, but wait..this event is not only for the ladies, there were quite a few gentlemen present as well! Chefs in the making! Ohhh la la!
Dana, our Taste of Living Culinary Specialist (a.k.a. Cook for the Evening but Culinary Specialist sounds so “Oui! Oui!” (Yes, it is an inside joke!)...but she has an inviting personality and a sense of humor that keeps you in stitches. She is well-informed with bits of trivia (Got a sore throat? Chew on the core of a pineapple and immediate healing – who knew? How Cool!) Dana definitely makes cooking a holiday spread look incredibly easy. It is cool that shops for all of the ingredients locally so it is doable! Not to put her too high on the cooking pedestal, it was a relief for the beater to act up and for her roll of dough to be not so perfect. Just maybe there is hope for us not so talented cooks yet.
The perfect recipe to end the evening: a table of good food surrounded by friends and laughter.

Friends, pizza, pets, baseball, old-maid, go-fish, and hi-o cherry-io – what do you get – the perfect recipe for a Friday night get-together.
Since we have been trying together for awhile and her husband was out of town, last Friday evening, it just worked out for us to visit my friend, Anissa and the kids. After picking up pizza, breadsticks and drinks plus a tray of my Mom’s delicious breads we were all set.
After everyone had eaten their full, it was playtime (and picture time). Now Bethany is an ideal model as she loves to have her picture taken – posing anywhere – with the dogs, on the swing set, playing school with Jeanette. Her brother, John, on the other hand…let’s just say I had to “make a deal” - a game of baseball in exchange for a smile (goodness, why not basketball or kickball? Baseball!) What in the world have I gotten myself into this time?
To the front yard we went, in the heat of the evening, for rip-roaring game. Anissa pitched, John and Jeanette were up first. Thankfully I had Bethany to help me run after the ball. Jeanette got a home run but it took their team so long to get a good hit and it was so hot, that we begged for two outs. Bethany got a good ball right off the bat but she had been changing shoes when John picked out the bases. After running all over the yard, they still got her out. What a heartbreak! Everyone was ready to call it quits and head inside for some rip-roaring card games!
I’ve not played so many hands of Old Maid, Go-Fish, and Hi-ho Cheerio in ages. John has a trick that makes everyone, including their “brown” guinea pig, Blackie, quiet down which tickled us but Jeanette and Blackie had their own language. We were beginning to think Blackie was a guinea pig prince who just needed a kiss to become Jeanette’s lost knight in shining armor! After a snack, pictures and hugs, it was time for bed and time for us girls to head home!
There’s nothing like hanging out with good friends – a chance to let your hair down, be yourself, laugh, talk and just relax. My life is enriched and blessed by these God-given friends!
