As I was arriving at work yesterday morning, the eerie sounds of sirens filled the air. A person could ignore the sound of one but when they seemingly keep coming and coming, it gets your attention. Suddenly, your heart skips a beat...is it a fire, an accident, is it someone I know or one of my loved ones in danger? All I could do was send up a prayer, Jesus, help those in trouble!
It didn't take long for word to spread that one of Rockcastle County's landmarks, Jean's Restaurant, was on fire. Wow! What a photographic opportunity! Oh, well but I was at work! But when my boss arrived, he wanted to go take a quick look so I jumped at the chance....Please, oh, please! Can I go with you?! Sure and off we went!
With all the trees finally in bloom, you could see the smoke over the mountains before getting close to the restaurant. We parked down the road a ways but my boss was like get on up there and get some pictures! And so nervously, I proceeded!
As I rounded the corner of some of the firetrucks, my attention was captured. Although it wasnt' of the fire, I couldn't walk on by without stopping for this shot!
Firement and on-lookers were all around. I certainly didn't want to be in their way! And although they looked at me like "who does this gal with a camera in her hand just think she is?" no one said a word. I was totally amazed at the "swimming pool" set up in the middle of the parking lot to hold the extra water. To watch the firemen cutting through the wall trying to get the water to the hot areas was like watching a scene from a television show.
My heart was saddened for those who had lost, even temporarily, jobs, income and property! But, on the other hand, I was excited at first photo journalist experience. I am by no means an adrenaline junkie but there is a thrill to being caught up in the midst of the action. I was also blessed to hear of those trying to help by offering jobs and suggestions for the future of the restaurant.
Later that afternoon, as I thought on the day' events, I realized we just never know when our life is going to change. At any given moment, the phone could ring with unbearable news. But why wait until that moment for change? This moment is the one given us by the Lord! Today is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! So the unfortunate fire at the restaurant made an impact on me and lit, or maybe just re-lit, the pilot light within me! So, here we are...once again on a journey....a journey of discovery, of becoming, of laughter, of tears....! Thanks for joining me once again....welcome to my small corner of this great big old world!
And now we are off.....off to another adventure!
Until next time...
