This week I have done a combination of both....an impromtu backyard shoot while visiting friend and then some in-studio work as well.
Every family has their story and this family is no different. In fact, meeting Earl and his family through friends in Ohio brought new meaning to the quote "it's a small world after all"! Because they have quite a few Rockcastle connections! Ashley is a bubbly, full of life young lady who wanted to share pictures with friends! Jonathan is a quiet young man that you would hardly know was on the place. It was fun taking a few minutes out to make a special memory!
Last night at the studio, we had back to back sessions! The first was to celebrate Addie at six months! This little sweetie will smile and smile...until you pick up a camera! Between the Harmonica Playing Raccoon and many lines of Shoo Fly, Don't ya bother me, we did try our best! We were cracking up but our little Miss was not so impressed! Oh, and let me tell you about her Big Sister, Allie! This little beauty was not much into taking pictures but she loved checking out the studio and entertaining herself while Mom and I was working with little Addie. She planted, watered and watched the Butterfly Garden set just grow and grow!
Then we had some special visitors. Camryn has visited the studio before being my "portrait ambassador" (a.k.a. guinea pig)! She is always a hoot with her little sassy poses and "am I showing too much teeth now?" over and over questions! And Parker, finally we got him to the studio for his first session! I am afraid we might be making camera shy already! It was the perfect shoot with him...he came full and happy and then had to have a wee nap which was ideal! :) Of course, every shoot has those "Wow! Did we catch that priceless moment?"
I think, all in all, it has been a pretty productive week and it is only Wednesday afternoon! So stay tuned for more previews plus RCHS Graduation and a long Memorial Day weekend with some very specials plans! More soon!

Sometimes it seems that summer with its warm weather, sunny, and other perks is never going to arrive this year! Everytime we turn around it seems to be raining! And next week's forecast is more of the same!
So the last two days at lunch, I have spent some time soaking it up! One of my favorite places for a picnic is the Hampton Gardens down at Lake Linville! I so appreciate that they share it with the rest of us!
The Hamptons and their neighbors keep their "lakefront" propery so beautiful supplying tables and benches for a relaxing visit!
Seems to me the least we could do is to pick up after ourselves in a show of apprciation! (Oops, got distracted by a tangent!)
Imagine after a busy morning in the office, a chance to slip off your shoes, soak up some rays and enjoy the chirps and quacks of birds, ducks and geese. Yes, it is most definitely peaceful!
Here's hoping you will take a break and find your own spot of peace!
Until next time...

It didn't take long for word to spread that one of Rockcastle County's landmarks, Jean's Restaurant, was on fire. Wow! What a photographic opportunity! Oh, well but I was at work! But when my boss arrived, he wanted to go take a quick look so I jumped at the chance....Please, oh, please! Can I go with you?! Sure and off we went!
With all the trees finally in bloom, you could see the smoke over the mountains before getting close to the restaurant. We parked down the road a ways but my boss was like get on up there and get some pictures! And so nervously, I proceeded!
As I rounded the corner of some of the firetrucks, my attention was captured. Although it wasnt' of the fire, I couldn't walk on by without stopping for this shot!
Firement and on-lookers were all around. I certainly didn't want to be in their way! And although they looked at me like "who does this gal with a camera in her hand just think she is?" no one said a word. I was totally amazed at the "swimming pool" set up in the middle of the parking lot to hold the extra water. To watch the firemen cutting through the wall trying to get the water to the hot areas was like watching a scene from a television show.
My heart was saddened for those who had lost, even temporarily, jobs, income and property! But, on the other hand, I was excited at first photo journalist experience. I am by no means an adrenaline junkie but there is a thrill to being caught up in the midst of the action. I was also blessed to hear of those trying to help by offering jobs and suggestions for the future of the restaurant.
Later that afternoon, as I thought on the day' events, I realized we just never know when our life is going to change. At any given moment, the phone could ring with unbearable news. But why wait until that moment for change? This moment is the one given us by the Lord! Today is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! So the unfortunate fire at the restaurant made an impact on me and lit, or maybe just re-lit, the pilot light within me! So, here we are...once again on a journey....a journey of discovery, of becoming, of laughter, of tears....! Thanks for joining me once again....welcome to my small corner of this great big old world!
And now we are off.....off to another adventure!
Until next time...
